Although it isn’t a well publicized fact, Paris is the second largest European city; it is also one of the best European city destinations. Paris short stays are primarily taken by couples wanting a romantic weekend; most people promise to return as so much they wanted to see will have been missed.
Visitors flock to see its many wonderful buildings; the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre must not go unmentioned. Like most European cities, Paris is easy to get around; there is an excellent underground system called the Metro which runs regular trains into the city center and is very easy to understand.
The Eiffel Tower at over 300 meters tall and is a magnificent steel structure; it can be seen throughout most locations around the city. Illuminated at night it dominates the city’s skyline; if you are really enthusiastic you can take a tour where the guide will tell you how this beautiful tower was built.
The famous Paris Avenue ‘the Champs Elysees’ must also receive a visit; you can see beautiful shops, sit and drink coffee from the many cafes or have a meal in a first class restaurant. This avenue is well worth a visit to see how the wealthy live; it is also where most of the five star hotels are situated but thankfully hotels tend to be cheaper once you move away from the city center.
This city is also the home to the renowned Louvre Museum; it contains almost a third of a million exhibits and is in fact one of the biggest art museums in the world. It would be easy for anyone on a Paris short stay vacation to spend all their time here; the Mona Lisa is one such world famous work of art which should not be missed. Over the years, Paris has been home to many of the world’s famous artists; painters like Monet and Picasso spent many years here and a large number of their art works can be seen in Paris today.
Paris is also the home of the equally famous Arc de Triomphe which Napoleon had constructed in the early part of the 19th century; it provides visitors with a wonderful photo experience because it contains the names of every one of his generals. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views; it is located in Place Charles de Gaulle where twelve of the city’s main avenues start, including Avenue de Champs Elysees.
Certainly it is not fair to believe that these are the only places in the city worth visiting; there are plenty of others to keep you occupied but to make the most of your time, use one of the guided tours. You should only ever consider a short stay in Paris as a sample of what is on offer; what you aren’t able to this time will have to wait for another occasion.
